Prempeh College as the results portrayed today is just on the verge of
winning another Inter-colleges athletic trophy tomorrow. This will ad up to
the numerous trophies that are exhibited in the office of the headmaster.
The competition was predicted to be a tough one as Kumasi Anglican has
showed a lot of determination prior to the inter-co. It is observed that
schools tend to put in more effort when they come face-to-face with the
gentlemen from Sofoline University.
The atmosphere today at the Len Clay sports stadium in Obuasi was conducive
for athletics. It was a little bit cold over there due to its mountainous
environment. Prempeh College students were there to support their boys as
that has been a tradition.
From the start of the fielf events, everything
seemed to be going against Prempeh till Livingston of Opoku Ware house
placed third in the triple jump and also made it to the finals of the high
and long jump which will take place tomorrow. Livingston was a major doubt
for this year's inter-co but the immediate intervention of the headmaster
resolved all the issues that clouded his participation.
Prempeh College also has qualified for the finals of the pole vault and
javelin. The 800m race then lift the curtain on the track events which
happens to be a strong hold of the Sofoline University. Eric Nyarko, the
industrious sports prefect and Elijah both placed first in their heat races
which qualifies them for the finals tomorrow.
Though Trezeguet was having problems with his stomach, he made it 2nd in the
1500m race while Owusu Amponsah took the 3rd position. Prempeh College
booked two places in the 400m final as well as the 110m hurdles. It was all
Goloe affair as Prempeh took the first position in the 200m heat and 100m
heat. It was Frank Goloe inspired by his brother Eric Goloe in the stands at Obuasi who
won the 200m race equalling the existing record at the Inter-colleges games.
Goloe-led Prempeh won the 4 by 400 metre race. Mboma, a new
sensation at the college also took the first place in the 400m race final
with Elijah placing 2nd in the same contest.
The last contest which had Prempeh taking the first position in today's
games was the 4 by 100. As it was expected, Frank Goloe did the final magic
for the boys from Sofoline. At the end of today's contest, Prempeh leads with
82 points followed by Kumasi Anglican with 72 points. The battle continues
tomorrow.
