Prempeh.org 2007/08 Inter-Houses Athletics: Day 1 Report
Thursday, February 28, 2008
The prempeh.org inter-houses athletics competition kicked off today with a lot of
expectations from the boys. After a period of training, the time to deliver was
here. It was an afternoon fit for sports as the weather was very cool for the
events. Mr Ofosuhene, the Mc for the day made the official introduction.
The athletics started with the junior divsion which had the form ones from the
various houses pitching against each other. It was a delight to watch as each of
them wanted to impress the sports masters and thus be selected to represent Mother
Prempeh at the newly refurbished Baba Yara Sports stadium.
The first event was the 800m race. Butler house cooly won it when Akolgo Benard
beat Apenkwa James of Ramseyer house and Edwin Prince of Guggisberg. The 1500m
race followed with Achoo Prince Kwabena doing it once again for Butler house.
Akoglo Bernard who had won the 800m race for Butler took the second place while
Freeman house's Asiedu Takyi settled for the third position.
On the field events, Freeman house did wonders in the javelin when Nkrumah Justice
and Asiedu Takyi took the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively leaving the first
place for Osei Tutu's Abayie Ofori.
Unti then, the boys in the White house had not managed to do anything worthy of
mention. The shot putt took a different turn for them when Afoakwa Charles and
Ohene Jeremy notched the first and second positions respectively leaving the 3rd
place for Dacosta Duke of Aggrey house.
Appiah Frimpong of Osei Tutu also won the high jump followed by Mensah Nicholas of
Freeman and Appiah Kusi Prince of Agrey house.
It was time then for some track events. In the 400m race, Okyere Teddy won it for
Guggisberg House with Boateng Clement coming in the second position while Antwi
Prince took the 3rd place.
Opoku Ware house showed why they are no pushovers when it comes to the annual
event as they made good use of their boys in the 200m race with Adu Yeboah coming
first and being "chased" heavily by Edmund Boakye also from the same house. Salisu
Alhassan came 3rd.
The 100m race which is considered as the hottest in these events gave today's
event something to cheer about. Kotei Collison of Osei Tutu house made it first
with Amankena Fred and Nicholas Opoku of Aggrey and Freeman making it 2nd and 3rd
respectively.
The day really belonged to the Opoku Ware house boys who made it first in the 4
by 100 and 4 by 400 competitions. They virtually had no competition in those two
events.
