Prempeh College re-affirmed their superiority in athletics over the other
schools in her group when they won the Zone D
group of the 2008 Inter-colleges athletics competition. The boys were besides
themselves with joy as the just ended prempeh.org
inter-houses competition had prepared them immensely and adequately for the
task ahead. With the likes of Frank Gole leading the squad, victory was
assured.
Prempeh boys celebrate on Tuesday after winning the trophy
The euphoria surrounding the Prempeh team was massive. Amanfoo had total
confidence in the boys.
Though Kumasi Anglican had made so much noise about how they were going to
tame Prempeh College as they did in last year's National Science & Maths Quiz
semi-final competition, the boys were not perturbed. It was
no wonder when Akuka Williams of Aggrey impressively won the first race of
the day in the 1500m. He went on to win the 800m and 5000m followed closely
by Joseph Trezeguet to wild applause from the spectators.
Prempeh College
set the ball rolling
and made mince meat of most of the events of the day in both the field and
track events. The now fit Frank Goloe won the admiration of all when he
stepped on the
newly built tartan tracks at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.
Kumasi Anglican and Tepa Secondary School were a torn in the flesh of
Amanfoo challenging them in various events such as the Triple Jump, pole
vault, discus and
high jump.
With the zeal to make it, Prempeh finished the first day ahead of
the pack with 72 points.
The second day was a delight to watch as the young Amanfoo won virtually all
the contests in the 110m hurdles, 4 by 100 and 4 by 400.
Frank Goloe won the 100m and the 200m race amidst the shouts and jeers from
the supporters of opposing teams.
William Akuka, the form one sensation who was discovered during the
prempeh.org organised inter-houses and even took part in the seniors
division instead of the juniors
and stunned the whole campus by winning the 1500m and 5000m, broke a record at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
William made a new record in the 5000m by winning in 4 minutes 04 seconds,
breaking the existing record of 4 minutes 7 seconds.
William promised all Amanfoo of setting a new record come superzonals on Monday at the Baba
Yara sports stadium.
With infleuntial coaches such as Foyoo and Ofushene around, there was no
room for intimidation and inferiority complex. Prempeh won the day with 143
and half points followed by Amaniamopong Sec with 64 and half points. Toase
Secondary whose ladies are the most beautiful in the whole of Ashanti
Region placed 3rd with 63 points. "The noise makers" Kumasi Anglican
placed 4th with 62 points while Asanteman missed out on the Super zonals by
placing 5th with 53 points.
Tuesday will be a day of joy once again for all Amanfo. What the boys want
is total support from all stakeholders of Prempeh College. Go Amanfoo. Make
us proud. prempeh.org supports you as it has done over the years.
