Prempeh disgraced at Superzonals

Tuesday, March 18, 2008

Imagine a headmaster who invites people to a Speech day and people do not turn up. That was in December 2007. Last saturday, a PTA meeting was held at Sofoline, but the parents opted to turn their backs on the headmaster and not turn up at all.

And today, it was the turn of the school's athletes, who decided to rather disgrace their soon-to-be alma mater at a full stadium than compete with any seriousness.

The school that has the talent to win the Ashanti Superzonals Athletics competition placed 5th in the competition today because the star athletes decided to use to occasion to stage a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately protest against their ill-favoured headmaster.

This lack of motivation caused the athletes to forfeit races or events even when they had only a slight pain in any part of their body. The essence of sacrifice was thus completely lost as even those who were not injured possibly feigned injury. It is even hard to figure out which of the stars that pulled out of the competition were actually injured.

Star athletes Akuka Williams, Frank Goloe and David Trezeguet were "nursing some injuries" and could not run today. With that to solve, the sports masters improvised and brought in some of the form ones boys who really did well during the prempeh.org inter-houses but could not match the strength of the athletes of the other schools.

Prempeh could not catch up with the other schools and however placed a disgraceful 5th. In the end, Opoku Ware came out first with 97 points followed by Konongo Odumasi, who has seen a renaissance ever since our won Wofa K. took over the helms as the headmaster.

Prempeh and OWASS were tied for first at 70 points apiece during the afternoon, with a few hours to go. Then our boys started dropping out of the competition to let the Owareans go on to gain 27 more points to win the competition.

Ghana Armed Forces Secondary came 3rd while the historically great T.I AMASS came 4th beating Prempeh by 1 point. It was a period of sorrrow for all the Amanfoo and lovers of the college who went to sit under the scorching sun to support the athletes of Prempeh College. It also goes to cement the fact that the school is collapsing under a poor administration.

When prempeh.org talked to some of the athletes, they said they had to help by taking part in competitions they had not participated in before becauase of the depletion of the squad. The sports prefect boldy told this website that there was no motivation to even participate in the competition.

Prempeh last month even opted to forfeit a Science Quiz competition in Kumasi because the school is now incapable of raising a team to compete in the sciences.

The sooner changes are made, the better for the college. All Amanfoo must wake up.
