Inauguration of the 2006/07 Prempeh.org Soccer League

.....A Report

Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Prempeh College has over the years been a place of producing the creme de la creme of sports men for Ghana and the world as a whole. Much can be said of the great Amanfoo who spearheaded athletics and soccer in Ghana. The success stories of the likes of Yusif Chibsah who is hailed in Ghana as "Ewiase nyinaa 6" (World best 6) and Edmund Owusu-Ansah, the captain of the Porcuppine Warriors, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, a team that is ranked 3rd in Africa tells it all.

Nonetheless, the young ones do not want to be left out as the likes of Douglas Nyame, who is now in the United States, Chibsah Junior also abroad, US-based Ghana Olympian Samuel Adade, who still maintains the record as the best athlete in the 100m and 200m category of the Inter-schools Super Zonal campetition in Ashanti Region have made it known why Prempeh College is the best. Of course there is also the great Dominic "Ananse" Oduro at FC Dallas and Mawusi at Manchester United Academy. Stephen Okei is the rock of the defense of the national Under-17 team and he will soon get the chance to showcase his talent in the Under-17 World Cup.

The college is the best in education and sports.

With the introduction of the prempeh.org Inter-house soccer competition last year, so many talents have been unearthed. This competition which is solely sponsored by the "Best School website" in Ghana was started last year. It brought about the maximizing of potentials and the discovery of talents. People hailed this noble idea by the webmaster,Dr Harold Ofori. The likes of Ahmed Deedat and Sadat will never forget this man who made it possible for a soccer agent to see their talent while playing for the respective houses in the prempeh.org inter-house championship.

Ahmed and Sadat now play for Bunkeflo IF in Sweden and always revere the webmaster and the introduction of the prempeh.org league. Prempeh.org whose mission is to help as many Prempeh students as possible once again launched this year's league on Monday, the 9th of October.

On the launching, the sports master and coach of the soccer team stressed the need for such leagues as they enhance the creativity and ingenuity of some players. It aslo goes to unearth some talents which in the long run will benefit Prempeh College as they strive to achieve success this year in all fields related to sports. Mr Lartey, however, reiterated the need for leagues to be sponsored and organised to unveil the talents in people who could play basketball and then hockey. "Through the leagues and the website prempeh.org, our athletes and footballers have gotten the opportunity to pursue careers outside the country. When you play it well, you get the fame and benefit for the work you do," Mr Lartey said while encouraging the players to do well this year too.

The headmaster also stressed the need for fair play as injuries will not augur well for the students. The prempeh.org inter-house soccer competition kicks off on Tuesday with a match between Opoku Ware and Ramseyer.
