The national Milo football
championship is scheduled for June 24 in Sunyani. Prempeh represents Ashanti
for the fourth successive time in the prestigious national competition with a form one-predominant team
that is widely regarded as Prempeh's greatest team in recent times.
Prempeh lost in the 2004 competition to Potsin AMASS, won the 2005 championship by
beating Winneba Secondary 8-7 on penalties, and lost in the 2006 final to Potsin
AMASS by a lone goal.
* These players are under indefinite suspension for violating team rules. They were not permitted by the coach
to appear for the photo shoot. While it is possible that they may get a recall for the national championship, the probability is low.
The talent pool within this team is so good that as many as 10 of them are predicted to play for the national team at some level.
The form one goalkeeper is from premier league side Kessben FC, where he has earned fame as an impregnable goalie. This is why in
Prempeh jersey Emmanuel Agyapong has conceeded about only four goals all year. It is long streak of excellent displays in the goal post
that compelled one Prempeh master to offer in cash during one game.
Like the goalkeeping department, all the other positions are filled by truly outstanding players, so that a list of "Players to Watch"
is a list of the entire team. Not even the great 1998 football team is better than these youngsters.
When these first-year students entered the school in October and grabbed table tennis rackets upon arrival and went out to bring home the
table tennis trophy, it was not an aberration. They came with an in-born, naturally adequate talent that allows them to excel at the
highest level. The pool of talent in this class is so large that Coach Lartey stated that: "The form one members of Pearson House alone can
represent the school." Then a few weeks later he observed that "G'berg House form one group is talented enough to form the starting 11."
