The influence of the prempeh.org inter-house soccer league has not been
farfectched. Just as the league was about to enter into the second
round, the organisers of the Ashanti Regional Milo soccer fiesta launched
the competition with the launch spearheaded by Prempeh's own sports
prefect, Eric Nyarko.
Mr. Lartey watching a tough a league match between two houses
Prempeh College has been lucky enough through the ingenuity of the
webmaster as she is the only school that had prepared a bit and had her
players match-fit.
Even OWASS sports master spent part of his time refereeing
prempeh.org soccer matches because there was nothing to do during the period of
the strike action.
How inspired must he have felt to witness the Prempeh spirit first-hand when
the call came in so suddenly that Ashanti football competition is to start immediately. While the Owarean and other Ashanti
coaches did not even know who their players were, Prempeh College had already found a talented team and even gained match fitness
because of an inter-houses league.
Prempeh had selected their team ahead of time and even played a friendly against University of Ghana
Secondary School (which is located at Akwatia-line, a suburb of Kumasi) on October 30 - a game co-refereed by the OWASS sports master.
Mr. Lartey took the opportunity to recruit some talented
form ones from the soccer league who are doing so well in the team. Some of them have played the
two friendly matches of the college and has been impressive.
Nonetheless, the form one boys lack the requisite physique and the stamina to
face schools like T.I AMASS, OKESS and Obuasi Sec Tech. As a result, the
whole team gathered at the school field at 4 a.m this morning for a
training session aimed at making the boys a little bit stronger.
The boys today went round the four corners of the college three times
starting from the Opoku Ware house through the assistant headmaster's
house to Serwaa house and then back. After the exercise, some of the boys
naturally gasped for breathe while the form threes who are used to this
routine before every tournament kept their cool.
They later went to the school field and played a game of two teams: one of
the teams led by school captain Paul Manu and the other led by Charles Brenya. The
operation will continue tomorrow till Sunday.
