Samuel Adade achieves a fantastic milestone

Monday, May 7 2007

Samuel Adade receives the baton for the anchor leg at last week's Penn Relays. He took home a silver medal for the 4x200 race

Samuel Adade (G'berg 2002) anchored the Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) relay team to a distinguished second place at the just ended 113th Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

In a field of tough contenders dubbed " The Championship of America," the MTSU 4x200-meter relay of Juan Walker, Orlando Reid, Sean Waller and sophomore Samuel Adade placed a remarkable second in a time of 1:22.81, behind only Florida State University.

The same foursome finished fourth in the 4x100-meter relay final with a time of 40.21 after winning their heat with 40.69s, which was eighth best among 69 teams.

By making such a fantastic finish in the 4x200-meter relay -- a track event that is uncommon in Ghana -- Adade has reminded us all why he is the Ashanti's greatest 200-meter runner.

It is very outstanding for him to qualify for two finals much less win a silver in one.

The renowned 4x100-meter relay quartet of Walker-Reid-Waller-Adade appear in Trackwire Magazine's Dandy Dozen rankings. They are ranked as the sixth best men's 4x100-meter relay team in the United States with a time of 39.57.

The Ashanti 200-meter record holder is peaking at the right time ahead of next year's Olympic Games.

Now, how many other Sofoline boys can join him on the Ghana relay team? Eric Goloe? Frank Goloe? Anybody?
